Approach: I work with adults and adolescents struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and emotional management, especially anger. As a clinically trained body-mind therapist, my focus is on mindfulness and present-moment awareness. I believe in growth within safe, non-judgmental relationships where you feel empowered to experience new perspectives, opportunities, and healing. In session I am present-focused, transparent, and relational. My approach is rooted in trust and collaboration. I value authenticity and bring my authentic self into our sessions. Our Sessions: I am currently offering 55 minute in-person and telehealth sessions for North Carolina residents, as well as coaching sessions for clients outside of North Carolina. In our sessions together I may pause you and ask what you are feeling in your body. I will offer you tools and techniques designed to connect your thoughts to your emotions, which we will then use together to develop strategies for you to heal and grow. Certifications: I am a licensed LCMHC. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University, with a certificate in Expressive Arts Therapy. I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I have additional training in Body-Mind Counseling, Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am a RYT200 certified yoga instructor.

About Me: I am an advocate for healthy manhood and a proponent of simple living. Prior to receiving my license, I worked as a field guide in wilderness therapy. I continue to carry a strong connection to therapeutics and the outdoors. I value growth, creativity, healthy relationship, and self-care.

Approach: I am a certified Canine Good Citizen. My therapeutic approach is grounded in play & pets. I believe that every person who wants love from a dog deserves it. I am here to offer unconditional support and joy.

Interests: My interests include fetch, frisbee, hikes, and running. I also enjoy good scratches on the neck, belly rubs, and squeaky toys.

 

Joe is present during in-person sessions. If you have an allergy to dogs, we will need to discuss this during our initial call together.

I offer individual, couples, & family counseling in-person and through my secure, HIPAA-compliant virtual counseling software. With an emphasis on present-focused, body-centered counseling, our sessions explore both practical and depth therapeutic techniques. My office is located off Haywood Rd in the Asheville, NC.

Addiction

I have considerable experience working with clients suffering from addiction - whether that is with drugs and alcohol, video games, social media, eating, or even exercise. Together we can work to find understanding, healing, and ultimately forgiveness for yourself, your journey, and for others who have been impacted along the way.

Relationship Trauma

Relationships are hard, and often traumatic. In our work together, we will explore what relationship means to you, and how you choose to show up in them. My role in these conversations is to hold, support, and reflect. You deserve to be in relationships that feel safe, supportive, and meaningful.


FAQ

  • Mindfulness-based counseling is a therapeutic approach focused on present moment, non-judgmental awareness. In session we will incorporate elements of breathwork, meditation, and body awareness to understand and access emotions as they arise. Research shows that mindfulness is one of the quickest ways to increase emotional awareness and emotional capacity.

  • I currently offer both in-person and HIPAA-compliant telehealth video counseling. I offer billable therapeutic services to NC residents and coaching services nationwide. My in-person office is located in Asheville, NC. We can discuss on our initial call what will work best for our time together.

  • I appreciate employing multiple modalities of therapy. As a trained Expressive Arts Therapist, we will have the option to supplement our talk therapy with mindfulness, movement, writing, drawing, and other artistic modalities.

  • Sessions are generally 55 minutes. However, depending on your needs I can schedule shorter or longer sessions. We can discuss this during our initial call.

  • I currently accept most insurance plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna in North Carolina. For my uninsured and coaching clients, I charge a sliding scale of $120-150 for a 55 minute session. If you qualify for the sliding scale option, we will discuss an appropriate price for our time together.

  • Our initial call will be roughly 15 minutes to discuss your counseling needs and goals for our time together. This is also a space to make sure that we will be a good fit. The initial call is free of charge. You may schedule our initial call HERE.

  • Joe is an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen and a wonderful therapeutic support. If you believe you might benefit from having Joe join our sessions, we can discuss this during our work together.
